Yellow Striped Mackerel/Asam Pedas

Yellow Striped Mackerel

2 weeks ago, I decided to go to the Chinese Market in Raleigh just to check things out. I was disappointed because my boss said that there're lot of things there.. but the items that I wanted to buy wasn't available there.

Anyway, I saw salted duck eggs.. I wasn't sure if I should buy it because I've bad experience with duck eggs.. They always turn out to be bad.. But I thought why not give it a try it might not be bad.. So I took them and put it in my basket.. I walked down the aisle again.. and I saw this fish "Ikan selar" Wowww!!

I've not seen ikan selar at any fish market since I first came and live in States.. This is my first time seeing it being sell here in package of course... Then I pick one package which consist of 6 fishes.. I don't like eating big fish.. I like these small fishes and those fish without any bones.. ;)

Anyway, I gut it and cleaned it and put some spices and am going to make "Asam pedas ikan selar" tonight or "Sweet, sour, and Spicy Striped Mackerel soup". It's easy to make.. any Asian girls should be able to make this soup.. If you don't, then live and learn girlfriend.... :)

Yummmsss!!!

Ingredients:

Chilli Paste or Chilli Powder
Striped Mackerel or any fish will do (Cleaned and gutted)
Salt & pepper
Tamarind Juice
Tumeric (a pinchful)
Tomato (sliced)
Vietnamese Chilli (small ones)
Sugar (1 tbsp)
Asam keping (don't know the English name)
Diced Onions
Chopped Garlic

note: Asam Keping is use to make the food taste sour and sweet

Methods:

1) Saute the Onions, garlic, pepper, and everything except the fishes and tomato
2) Add water, sugar, and Tamarind juice.
3) Let it boil then add the fishes
4) Then add the tomato.

You're Done!! Now, let's eat with white rice... :) Oh!! you can modify this recipe to your likings.... :)
